Publisher information
Publisher is a Desktop Publishing Application and is part of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Placing emphasis on page layouts and design rather than text as in Word. Publisher is compatible with Adobe Pagemaker but not other Desktop Publishing Applications. Until the Office 2007 version, it did not support PDF formats. This means that Fonts can be embedded into PDF. Publisher is compatible with the EMF Format which is supported by many applications.
The first windows version was in 1991.Publisher can cope with many layouts, business cards, brochures, flyers, newsletter, letterheads, etc. It can incorporate graphics, photos and text, however it is not as powerful as other Desktop Applications such as PageMaker or QuarkXPress and these remain the leaders in the field.
Publisher and FrontPage are very similar in use as the WYSIWYG style of functioning. Publisher and FrontPage allows code, (HTML) or the WYSIWYG styles of layout. There is now a Template for WebPages in Publisher 2007.
