Word 2000/XP Long Documents

Part 3 - Headers and Footers

When typing out long documents it is perhaps essential to apply headers and footers to the document to make it easier control. You add them by clicking on View/Headers and Footers. We are then presented with the Header and Footer toolbar. The page you are working on will grey out and the header box appears.

You can format the header as usual. Add the title of your document. If you are interested in adding any other item such as the date, you can do so by clicking the relevant tool.

Move your cursor along each of the tools to see the screen tip which explain what the tool does. You can choose to have your header right aligned, left aligned, or centred by using the normal formatting buttons on your toolbar. The tool that says switch between header and footer, that’s the tool we want to use when adding page numbers at the bottom of your pages. Switch to the footer now. Click on the first button to add the pageforwardarrow numbers in your footers. You can then format the number to a stylish font for a footer number.
