The global economic slowdown and increase in rate of interest has had its impact on small businesses in Australia. According to a survey by Dun and Bradstreet, the upsetting trend of failures in small businesses over the last three years has been most pronounced last year. The survey shows that close to 50 percent of enterprises in small businesses have been affected by bankruptcy and there has been a drastic fall in new enterprises entering this sector to the tune of 95%.

Dun & Bradstreet predict that close to 128,000 companies in Australia will face financial problems over this year. Banks are also not doing enough to ease the situation for the small business sector. Even though bad and doubtful loans are not increasing for the banks as a whole the situation is different for small businesses and there is not much hope for them in the form of rate cuts in the short run. According to statistics of Dun & Bradstreet, failures in small businesses or companies with less than 9 workers increased by 57%, and 40% for companies with 6 to 19 workers. As a result start up in small businesses declined by 95 % in the face of an increasing Australian dollar.

Our son is wonderful, but his idiosyncrasy of being lax about time is a concern. He was about to embark on his first major job and he didn't even have a decent watch! What's worse is that he said he depended on his mobile phone for the time. I told him this was entirely absurd now that he's entering the work world. What finally got him to come around was my offer to let him choose a watch from a selection of IWC watches. He has always been interested in aviation and in adventures, so this watch carries that spirit. That's what'll make him put it on his wrist! I know, this sounds like a bribe…but I want to ensure his success. He's a hard worker in all respects, he has just always had this resistance to having a watch! I know his spirit; he'd rather be out in nature most of the time. Honestly, I think he might have gotten that from me! However, he has to learn to pay close attention to time now. I'm sure the circumstances will teach him that soon enough. Having business meetings and places to be, on a schedule, will force him to adjust soon enough. I'm so glad that he'll be able to enjoy having that uplifting timepiece on his wrist, symbolizing his adventurous spirit, even while he's going through the day-to-day life experience of working in offices.
